Application Process

Pre-Kindergarten - Class 2
Classes 3 - 6
Classes 7 - 12
Online Application
Candidates for admission to Pre-Kindergarten - Class 2 may apply throughout the calendar year, although families are encouraged to follow the fall/winter timetable for admission. The School admits new students to all grade levels in the elementary program on a space-available basis.

At Southfield, there are two levels of Kindergarten, Pre-K and Kindergarten.  Pre-K is designed for girls who turn four years old by September 1 of the year they enter Pre-K.

Campus Tour and Parent Interview
Families of candidates for Pre-Kindergarten – Class 6 should contact the Admissions Office to schedule a visit to the School for a campus tour and interview. The initial visit is for parents only and provides an opportunity to meet with an admissions representative, share information, and ask questions. The candidate visits the School at a later date.
Application
  • The application may be submitted before or after the campus tour.  Paper or online forms are welcome.
  • A current teacher recommendation may be downloaded from this page and should be sent directly to the Admissions Office.
  • Transcripts should be forwarded from the current school pri<

Student Visit
Following receipt of the application, candidates attend a Visit Day in an age-appropriate classroom. Group visits are scheduled on school days in January.  Families have their choice of visit days.

During the visit, the child spends time in a classroom with teachers and is asked to perform tasks appropriate to her current grade level. While the candidate is in the classroom, her parents attend a reception where they may speak with faculty members and learn more about the School. The visit takes between one and four hours, depending on the age of the child.

Current Teacher Recommendation
Southfield requires a current teacher or professional care-giver to fill out and return a recommendation for the candidate. The form should be sent directly from the recommender to the Admissions Office.

Decision and Notification
Decision letters for the regular admissions cycle are mailed on March 10.  Families who apply later will have a different schedule.

Application folders are considered complete when all required forms are submitted and the candidate has visited the School. Required forms include:
  • Application
  • Current Teacher Recommendation
  • Relevant grade transcripts
Those admitted are provided a timetable in the acceptance letter to respond to the School with their intent to enroll for the following school year. While the School strives to provide timely decisions to all families, available spaces in some grade levels may require a waiting list.
