FAQs

Q. What are the typical entry-points for new students?
A. Southfield reviews application files for and typically offers admission to a select number of students at every grade level.  The most common entry points after Kindergarten are Classes Six, Seven, and Nine, with a limited number of spots available in Classes Ten and Eleven.

Q. Is there an application fee?
A. The application fee is $50 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants.

Q. What is the application deadline?
A. Applications for all grades are due by February 1, with decision letters mailed on March 10.  For applicants outside the regular cycle, applications are considered on a rolling basis, as they become complete.

Q. What standardized tests are required for admission?
A. For Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 4, standardized testing is not required. For Grades 5-12, applicants take either the SSAT or the ISEE examinations. Information on these tests can be found online at www.ssat.org and www.erbtest.org respectively. The Southfield School SSAT Score Recipient Code is 2842, and the ISEE Score Recipient Code is 222607.

Q. Does Southfield host Open Houses?
A. Southfield hosts Open Houses during the fall. Please check the admission homepage for scheduled dates. It is important to note that attendance at an Open House does not replace the individual parent visit required for admission to Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 6, or the individual parent/student visit required for Grades 7-12. Individual parent and parent/student visits provide an opportunity for families to see classrooms in action, hear about and discuss in more detail the curriculum and philosophy of the school, and to ask any question they may have in a personalized setting.

Q. Does Southfield offer financial aid?
A. Limited need-based financial aid grants are available. To receive financial aid application materials, please call the Financial Aid office at (617) 454-2724.

Q. What communities do Southfield students come from?
A. We have students enrolled at Southfield from over fifty communities in eastern Massachusetts. Transportation is provided by our fleet of faculty-driven school buses to and from many towns in greater Boston.
