Recent field trips for Dexter and Southfield seventh graders have complemented their classroom experiences with valuable off-campus learning. Southfield 7 traveled to the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) on May 3 for guided tours of two current exhibitions: Figuring Color, a mixed media display, and Anthropocene Extinction, which included a giant, organic 400-pound sculpture. The class also participated in an art lab, where each girl created a mixed media sculpture, now on display in the Clay Center art gallery. For photos, click here. Students in Dexter 7 visited the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum on May 8 in connection with their American history curriculum. Their docent-led tour focused not only on JFK’s life and presidency but also on the Civil Rights Movement and the Space Race.
